Pet Friendly Beaches in Maine

Gooch’s Beach, Kennebunk

Gooch's Beach is perfect for some fun under the sun with the whole family. Even when you’re traveling with your pets, this beach is the place to go as it is a pet friendly beach. Go for a run on the shores of this beach with your furbaby by your side or sit back and relax as the waves crashing at the shoreline create soothing melodies; do whatever makes your trip to the beach complete. Gooch's Beach is the beach at the northernmost section of Kennebunk Beach Walk. At this scenic beach, pooches are allowed to have fun off leash before 9 A.M. and after 5 P.M., from June 15th to Labor Day. If you plan on letting your pupper run free without a leash, then you would have to make sure that s/he is trained well enough to follow your voice commands to a T. You would need to have a leash with you at all times. Waste disposal bags are available at the beach.

Long Sands Beach, York

Staying true to its name, Long Sands Beach stretches over a mile of pristine sandy shoreline that falls between the villages of York Beach and York Harbor. It is a dog friendly beach. Hence, it is frequented by the dogs and pawrents of the nearby areas. When you visit this beach with your furkid, you can run around playing fetch or even go for a swim together if you like. When you get hungry after all the fun, you can grab a bite to eat from a restaurant that’s right next to the beach. You and your doggo can sit down and eat together at one of their picnic tables. Visiting Long Sands Beach with a pet can be an awesome experience. However, there are a few time restrictions for pets and pawrents. From May 20th to September 20th, no dogs are allowed on the beach from 8 A.M. to 6 P.M. From sunrise to 8 A.M. dogs are allowed to run around without a leash as long as they are great at following voice commands. From 6 P.M. till sunset, dogs are allowed on the beach but they would have to be on a leash.

Kinney Shores, Saco

Kinney Shores is one of those beaches that allow dogs in its premises all day all through summer. So, while traveling with your furkid, you don’t need to carefully time your visit to the beach. You can head to the beach at any time of the day, according to your convenience. Kinney Shores is definitely one of the most gorgeous beaches in Maine. If you plan on spending the day here, then you would need a beach umbrella and lots of drinking water. You and your dog can go swimming together at this beach. If you and your pupper love to surf, then you can do that too. Just watch out for the tricky riptides that appear from time to time.

Willard Beach, South Portland

Willard Beach is considered to be one of the best dog friendly beaches in the state. At this beach, doggos are allowed to run around and play freely without any leash. Pawrents would still need to carry a leash with them while taking their furbabies to this palce. However, there are a few rules and regulations to be followed. From May 1st to September 30th, dogs are allowed to visit the beach only between the hours of 7 A.M. to 9 A.M. and 7 P.M. to 9 P.M. Along with swimming and boating, you and your furkid can go hiking at the Spring Point Shoreway Trail and make your way to Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse. Your pooch would need to be on a leash while hiking at this trail.
