Most airlines accept pets weighing 20 lbs or less in the cabin and no more than 100 lbs in the cargo hold. Larger dogs that do not meet the requirement of the cabin will be transported in the cargo hold. Before booking your flights with a pet, it is always advised to check any seasonal restrictions the airline may have.

Tame Linea Aerea Pet Policy

Tame Linea Aerea, the flag carrier of Ecuador, permits pets to travel in the cabin as well as to be shipped as cargo. It is of prime importance to be aware of the airlines’ specific pet policies to understand the requirements and prepare for a safe and comfortable journey for your pet(s). Because of the limited number of flights in which pets are welcomed aboard and restricted capacity to carry pets, you must contact the airline at least 48 hours prior to your trip.

Pet Criteria

Tame Linea Aerea accepts cats and dogs on their flights. Pets must be at least 8 weeks old to be able to fly with the airline. A certificate confirming that the pet is physically fit to travel issued by a certified veterinarian must be carried along during travel.

In-cabin

Only two pets are permitted to fly in the cabin. The combined weight of the pet and the carrier must be less than 15 lb. The container carrying the pet must be an approved model, the dimensions of which cannot be more than 23 x 16 x 9 inches. The container should be well-ventilated and the pet must fit comfortably inside with sufficient room to move around in and stand without touching the roof or the edges. The pet must be well-trained on how to behave appropriately while flying in the cabin of an aircraft. A muzzle and a leash must be worn at all times by the pet.

In-cargo

Pets other than cats and dogs, and those which are unable to fulfill the criteria for in-cabin travel are allowed to be transported via Tame Cargo.

Emotional Support/Service Animal

There is no additional charge levied on the pets traveling in-cabin if those pets are there for emotional support or to assist people with disabilities (the blind, the deaf etc.). However, only one pet, be it a cat or a dog, per passenger, is allowed to fly. When it comes to traveling with an emotional support animal, a certificate must be issued by a mental health professional stating that the passenger is undergoing treatment under him/her and requires the pet for emotional support while traveling.
