Most airlines accept pets weighing 20 lbs or less in the cabin and no more than 100 lbs in the cargo hold. Larger dogs that do not meet the requirement of the cabin will be transported in the cargo hold. Before booking your flights with a pet, it is always advised to check any seasonal restrictions the airline may have.

SriLankan Airlines Pet Policy

SriLankan Airlines only allows pet(s) to travel in its aircraft if a prior approval is sought. Also, pet travel is allowed on only selected flights. It is of prime importance to be aware of the airlines’ specific pet policies to understand the requirements and prepare for a safe and comfortable journey for your pet(s).

Pet Criteria

Dogs, cats, household birds and other animals are accepted as pet passengers onboard SriLankan Airlines.


Currently, SriLankan Airlines does not permit pets to travel in the cabin.

Checked Baggage

Animals are only welcome to fly with the airline as checked baggage. However, the conditions of the airline must be met before the approval is granted. To seek approval, the pet owner must provide the airline with a valid health report of the pet, permit for entry and other certifications that are needed by the travel destination. The carrier in which the animal is required to be kept during the transit must not exceed the dimensions restriction of 17 x 12 x 17 inches.

Emotional Support/Service Animal

SriLankan Airlines accepts only one service animal per flight at no extra charge. A credible verbal assurance of the passenger in need of the service animal at the time of check-in is required. To ensure that the animal and those around him/her in the cabin do not face any trouble, a service animal is required to be muzzled, harnessed and should be on a leash throughout the flight’s duration. The animal must remain under the control of the passenger and should be in the best of his/her behavior.
