Spirit Airlines Pet Policy

Spirit Airlines allows small pets to travel in cabin on most domestic flights. It is of prime importance to be aware of the airlines’ specific pet policies to understand the requirements and prepare for a safe and comfortable journey for your pet(s).The number of pets allowed in a flight are limited to 4 at a time. So confirming availability with the airlines is the first step of many, as explained further.

Pet Criteria

Spirit Airlines permits only dogs, cats and household birds in the cabin. For this, the weight of the pet added with the weight of the carrier should not be more than 40lbs (18kg).

In-cabin

While in cabin, the pets must always inside the carrier. The passenger is only allowed one pet carrier with a maximum of 2 pets inside. The carrier should be big enough for the pet(s) to move around and stand up freely but within the limits of 18" L x 14" W x 9" H (45 cm x 35 cm x 23 cm) to be approved for pet travel.

In-cargo

Spirit airlines does not have pet travel provisions as checked baggage or cargo hold right now. This is because of possible health risks that come with extreme temperature fluctuations in cargo areas.

Emotional Support/Service Animal

Spirit Airlines is welcoming towards most Service/Emotional Support/Psychiatric Animals except snakes, rodents, spiders, ferrets and super gliders. Although the airlines does put a limitation of only 1 Emotional Support Animal older than 4 months of age per person. Alternately, the limitations on Service Animals are up to 3 per passenger. The documentation required by Spirit Airlines are -

• Veterinary Health Form - subject to verification
• Passenger Acknowledgement Form
