The flag carrier airline of Singapore, Singapore Airlines allows pets to be transported as checked baggage and in cargo. It is of prime importance to be aware of the airlines’ specific pet policies to understand the requirements and prepare for a safe and comfortable journey for your pet(s). The number of pets allowed on a flight are limited. Hence, it is advisable that you inform the airline and reserve a space for your furry travel companion right after your flight tickets get confirmed.
Singapore Airlines allow domesticated dogs and cats to be transported on their flights. This comes with the condition that they be at least three months old.
Only service dogs are allowed to accompany their owners in the cabin.
Singapore Airlines allows pets to be transported as checked baggage as long as the combined weight of the pet and its carrier does not exceed the weight limit of 71 lb (32 kg). If the weight restrictions are not followed, then your pet might be assigned to travel in the cargo. Depending on the type of aircraft you’re traveling in, the size requirements of the crate you use to transport your pet would differ. Maximum height of the crate for A330 aircraft is 22 inches, B777 aircraft is 43.3 inches, A350 aircraft is 27.5 and A380 aircraft is 23.6 inches. When pets are transported as checked baggage, then they are regarded as extra baggage rather than a part of the permitted free checked baggage. Hence, additional baggage fee would be applicable for the combined weight of your pet and the crate s/he would be transported in.
You won’t have to worry about the comfort or safety of your pet while transporting them via cargo as they get to travel in air-conditioned cargo hold.
If you’re traveling with an emotional support dog, then make sure that you carry the required documentation with you at all times. It is important that you have your emotional support dog’s current and valid certification from a licensed mental health professional, on his/her official letterhead. For other types of service animals, you would need to carry documentation/certification as proof that they are trained service animals. While traveling, you might have to produce these documents on request, at any point of time. A service animal gets to travel without any charge and is considered as an unchecked baggage. The service animal cannot have a seat to him/herself. S/he needs to be placed in such a space that s/he does not block any emergency exit. While flying in the cabin, a moisture absorbent material needs to be placed under the service animal at all times. A muzzle is usually not required during the flight, but it is advisable that you carry one with you when you travel.
