Sichuan Airlines Pet Policy

One of the largest airline in western China, Sichuan Airlines allows pets to be transported as checked baggage. It is of prime importance to be aware of the airlines’ specific pet policies to understand the requirements and prepare for a safe and comfortable journey for your pet(s).

Pet Criteria

The pets that are allowed to be transported as checked baggage include dogs, cats, birds and other domesticated family pets. One passenger is allowed to transport a maximum of two pets.

In-cabin

No pet is allowed to travel in the cabin unless s/he is a service dog.

Checked Baggage

On long-haul flights and certain types of aircraft, pets may not be allowed to be transported even as checked baggage, for their own safety. The combined weight of the pet and his/her pet carrier or crate should not exceed the weight limit of 71 lb (32 kg). The dimensions should not be more than 16 x 27 x 39 inches or less than 2 x 6 x 9 inches. The pets need to be at least six months old for them to be transported by flights. Certain documentations are required for your pet to be able to travel on a flight, such as an Animal Quarantine Certificate issued by the Animal Health Supervision Institute and proof of all the necessary vaccines administered to the pet.

In-cargo

Pets that exceed the weight and crate dimensions restrictions would be transported via cargo.

Emotional Support/Service Animal

While planning to travel with an emotional support dog, you would need to make sure that you have prepared all the required documentation. You also need to make sure that you carry these documentations with you at all times. It is important for you to have an emotional support dog’s valid and current certifications from a licensed mental health professional, on his/her official letterhead. For other types of service animals, like guide dog for the blind or deaf, you require to carry documentation that proves that they are trained service animals. You also need to carry documentation that provides a proof of the fact that that particular service animal is associated with you. You might need to present these documentations to certain authorities at any time during your travel.
