Most airlines accept pets weighing 20 lbs or less in the cabin and no more than 100 lbs in the cargo hold. Larger dogs that do not meet the requirement of the cabin will be transported in the cargo hold. Before booking your flights with a pet, it is always advised to check any seasonal restrictions the airline may have.

Scandinavian Airlines Pet Policy

Due to space restrictions, Scandinavian Airlines only accepts a limited number of pets onboard. To ensure a confirmed spot for a pet, it is imperative to get in touch with the airline as soon as the plan confirms. It is of prime importance to be aware of the airlines’ specific pet policies to understand the requirements and prepare for a safe and comfortable journey for your pet(s).

Pet Criteria

Scandinavian Airlines only accepts cats and dogs under its pet travel service.

In-cabin

A pet carrier is counted as carry-on baggage and each passenger is allowed to bring one carrier in the cabin. However, two small pets can be put together in the same carrier if they do not exceed the weight restriction of 18 lbs. The size of the carrier must be 16 x 10 x 9 inches for the pet(s) to comfortably stand up, sit and turn around. Also, the airline recommends that the pet must be carried in a Sherpa bag or a soft-sided carrier.

In-cargo

To transport a pet via cargo, a kennel made of a sturdy material like fiberglass, metal, rigid plastic or solid wood is needed. It should also be leak proof, clean and disinfected. The maximum weight allowed for pet travel is 132 lbs. Two animals of comparable size and breed, accustomed to one other, and each weighing 31 lbs can travel in the same carrier.

Emotional Support/Service Animal

Scandinavian Airlines accepts only one dog per passenger as an emotional support animal. Additionally, it permits a trained service animal to travel in the cabin with the dependent passenger. To ensure that an emotional support and service animal is allowed onboard, the airlines demands complete documentation from the passenger. Documents required include:

  • Mental health certificate from a licensed mental health practitioner, stating the dependency
  • Health and vaccination records stamped by a certified veterinary
