Qantas Airways is the largest Australian airline and they allow live animals to travel in the hold of their aircraft. It is of prime importance to be aware of the airlines’ specific pet policies to understand the requirements and prepare for a safe and comfortable journey for your pet(s). The number of animals allowed in the cargo are limited, so confirming the availability is the first step of many, as explained further.
Pets, other live animals, and assistance and support dogs are welcome to travel with Qantas.
Currently, the provision to travel in the cabin is only available for Service/Support dogs.
Animals can be transported through Qantas Freight. The carrier used for the transportation should be big enough for the animal to sit, stand upright and move around comfortably, still keeping in mind that the carrier dimensions should not be more than 50" x 24" x 32" (129 cm x 62 cm x 82 cm). Food and water should be accessible to them from inside.
Trained guide/hearing/assistance dogs can travel in the cabin of Qantas Airways flights. Prior notice about service/support animal will be required by the airline along with proper documentation including verification of training, a letter from a licensed mental health professional, fulfilled vaccination and quarantine records and the length and weight of the dog. The airline will need to be satisfied with the documents provided to give the final go ahead on the dog’s travel.
