Most airlines accept pets weighing 20 lbs or less in the cabin and no more than 100 lbs in the cargo hold. Larger dogs that do not meet the requirement of the cabin will be transported in the cargo hold. Before booking your flights with a pet, it is always advised to check any seasonal restrictions the airline may have.

Norwegian Air International Pet Policy

Pets are allowed to travel in Norwegian Air flights in the cabin, cargo and as checked baggage. It is of prime importance to be aware of the airlines’ specific pet policies to understand the requirements and prepare for a safe and comfortable journey for your pet(s). The space for pets is limited and in some flights it is as less as 2 pets in the cabin at a time, so confirming the availability is the first step of many, as explained further.

Pet Criteria

Cats and dogs are permitted to travel with Norwegian Air flights. The age limitation on pets’ travel is that they must be at least 8 weeks old.

In-cabin

Small cats and dogs are permitted to travel in the cabin of domestic flights in Norway(excluding Svalbard), Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Spain. Two pets are allowed in the cabin but upto three small puppies or kittens can travel in the same carrier. The combined weight of the pet and carrier should not be more than 17 lbs (8 kg). The airline recommends a flexible sherpa bag for a carrier but accepts other options as well as long as they are smaller than 17" x 12" x 8" (43 cm x 31 cm x 20 cm).

Checked Baggage

Pets exceeding the weight limitations of traveling in-cabin can be transported as checked baggage. Up to 2 cats or dogs can travel in the same carrier if they are comfortable with each other. However, a cat and a dog will not be permitted to travel together in one carrier. They also cannot weigh more than 31 lbs (14 kg) per animal. The carriers cannot be bigger than 50" x 32" x 34" (125 cm x 81 cm x 86 cm) and should be clean, properly marked, well ventilated from three sides, leakproof and of a solid sturdy substance. Weld mesh carriers and carriers with wheels will not be permitted.

In-cargo

Norwegian Cargo can transport pets traveling alone or the ones that do not meet the criteria to travel as checked baggage. Carrier requirements are the same as that of checked baggage.

Emotional Support/Service Animal

Service dogs and dogs currently in training can both travel in the cabin with Norwegian Air at no cost. Emotional Support dogs can travel in the cabin provided a licensed mental health professional issues a letter stating the individual’s mental health condition and the need for the animal to travel along.
