Japan Airlines Pet Policy

Japan Airlines restricts the number of pets to travel on its flights. Therefore, a passenger planning to take a pet along should make arrangements for it in advance. It is of prime importance to be aware of the airlines’ specific pet policies to understand the requirements and prepare for a safe and comfortable journey for your pet(s).

Pet Criteria

Japan Airlines welcomes dogs, cats, ferrets, hamsters, marmots, squirrels, rabbits, small birds, and chinchillas onboard. A dog and cat, however, should not be less than 8 weeks old.

In-cabin

Japan Airlines, at present, does not permit pets to travel in the cabin.

Checked Baggage

Passengers who wish to travel with their pet on the same flight are required to fill a letter of consent to be able to take their pets as checked baggage. The airline takes into consideration the health of the pet as stated in the vet’s records to approve traveling in the flight. The carrier in which the pet will be kept throughout the flight’s duration must be made of a sturdy metal and should be large enough to allow him/her the necessary movement.

In-cargo

Japan Airlines allows pets to travel as cargo. The airline must be informed ahead in time because there is space restriction. Also, the carrier in which the pet will be kept should be of a strong metal, must have proper ventilation arrangement, and be intact with a lock on the door. It should be big enough to allow the pet to sit, stand and turn around comfortably.
