Most airlines accept pets weighing 20 lbs or less in the cabin and no more than 100 lbs in the cargo hold. Larger dogs that do not meet the requirement of the cabin will be transported in the cargo hold. Before booking your flights with a pet, it is always advised to check any seasonal restrictions the airline may have.

Iberia Pet Policy

Due to restriction on the number of pets allowed on each flight operated by Iberia, passengers planning to travel with pet(s) must make arrangements ahead in time. It is of prime importance to be aware of the airlines’ specific pet policies to understand the requirements and prepare for a safe and comfortable journey for your pet(s).

Pet Criteria

Dogs, cats, turtles, fish and birds are accepted as pet passengers onboard Iberia.

In-cabin

Pets are welcome in the cabin of the aircraft provided that they are kept inside the carrier throughout the flight’s duration. The carrier should not measure more than 18 x 14 x 10 inches. Also, the weight of the pet and carrier combined must not exceed 18 lbs.

Checked Baggage

Pets that do not meet the requirement of the cabin are transported as checked baggage. However, the combined weight of the pet and carrier must not be more than 99 lbs. The carrier in which the pet will be kept should be made of a strong material, be adequately ventilated and embedded with a waterproof floor. It should also be large enough for the pet to sit, stand up and turn around conveniently.

Emotional Support/Service Animal

Iberia accepts emotional support and service dogs upon prior approval. While service dogs are accepted on all flights, emotional support dogs are only welcome on flights bound to the United States. Dependent passengers must present the airline with certain documents to confirm traveling with an emotional support dog. Of prime importance, a letter issued by a medical practitioner stating that the passenger is under his/her care, has been diagnosed with a mental or emotional disability as recognized in the DSM IV or V and is in need of the dog for the flight journey or to assist the passenger at the travel destination.
