Ethiopian Airlines Pet Policy

Ethiopian Airlines welcomes pets to travel on their flights provided that the reservation for it is made ahead in time since only a limited number of pets are accepted on each aircraft. It is of prime importance to be aware of the airlines’ specific pet policies to understand the requirements and prepare for a safe and comfortable journey for your pet(s).

Pet Criteria

Pet Criteria Only cats and dogs are accepted as pet passengers on Ethiopian Airlines.

In-cabin

Only one pet in the Business Class and two pets in the Economy Class are allowed to travel in the cabin of the aircraft. Throughout the flight’s duration, the pet is required to stay inside a carrier, the dimensions of which cannot exceed 22 x 16 x 8 inches. Also, the weight of the pet and that of the carrier must be within 18 lbs.

Checked Baggage

Pets that do not meet the requirement of the cabin are transported as checked baggage. However, the weight of the pet and the carrier combined cannot exceed 71 lbs.

In-cargo

Pets that exceed the weight restriction of the checked baggage and are required travel unaccompanied are transported via the cargo service of the airline.

Emotional Support/Service Animal

Ethiopian Airlines accepts trained and service dogs in the cabin of the aircraft at no additional cost.
