El Al Israel Airline Pet Policy

El Al Israel accepts small pets to travel in the cabin, cargo and as checked baggage on most of their flights. It is of prime importance to be aware of the airlines’ specific pet policies to understand the requirements and prepare for a safe and comfortable journey for your pet(s). The airline requires a prior notice of the pet traveling with you including details of the carrier including its measurements and weight. So to reserve a spot for your pet is the first step of many, as explained further.

Pet Criteria

Small dogs, cats and exotic birds can be transported through El Al Israel.

In-cabin

To be eligible to travel in the cabin, the combined weight of the pet and the carrier must not be more than 17 lbs (8 kg). A maximum of 2 pets can be transported in the same carrier as long as the weight remains under the said limitation. The carrier should always be under the seat in front of you and the pet too must always remain inside the carrier throughout the journey. The maximum carrier dimensions for economy class are 16" H x 7.5" W x 15" D (41 cm x 38 cm x 19 cm) and 12" H x 12" W x 7.5" D (30 cm x 30 cm x 19 cm) for business class. The carriers can be either hard sided or soft sided and must be leak proof.

Checked Baggage

Pets that exceed the weight limitations as required for in-cabin travel can travel as checked baggage. Pets weighing between 17 lbs (8 kg) and 220 lbs (100 kg) can travel in hold. Up to 3 young animals can be transported together in the same carrier but only if their individual weights are less than 30 lbs (14 kg). Animals that weigh more than 30 lbs will need to be transported in separate carriers. The carriers should also be strong and sturdy to prevent escape and should have ventilation from 4 sides.

In-cargo

If the combined weight of the pet and the carrier is more than 220 lbs (100 kg), then the pet can be transported through El Al Cargo Division. The carrier requirements for cargo transportation is the same as that of checked baggage.

Emotional Support/Service Animal

Service dogs and Emotional Support Animals traveling with passengers with special needs can travel for free with El Al provided they have veterinary assurance of safety of other passengers and a sanitary approval in case of a flight longer than 8 hours. Passengers are required to carry a harness and a muzzle in case of an emergency. The destination country may have certain documentation requirements and it is the passenger's responsibility to have them handy.
