Most airlines accept pets weighing 20 lbs or less in the cabin and no more than 100 lbs in the cargo hold. Larger dogs that do not meet the requirement of the cabin will be transported in the cargo hold. Before booking your flights with a pet, it is always advised to check any seasonal restrictions the airline may have.

Edelweiss Air Pet Policy

Edelweiss Air has a proper pet friendly travel policy in place, welcoming pets to travel in the cabin, in the cargo hold, and as checked baggage. However, it takes into due consideration the pet travel policy of the destination of travel and may not transport live animals based on that. So, passengers planning to travel with pet(s) must check that in advance. It is of prime importance to be aware of the airlines’ specific pet policies to understand the requirements and prepare for a safe and comfortable journey for your pet(s).

Pet Criteria

Edelweiss Air primarily allows cats, dogs, rabbits and hares to travel on its flights. However, other live animals may be transported through the cargo service of the airline.

In-cabin

Pets such as small dogs and cats are permitted to travel in the cabin of the aircraft. Each passenger is allowed to bring a maximum of two pets onboard. But, the weight of the pet and that of the carrier combined should not be more than 17 lbs. While traveling in the cabin, pets are required to stay inside a soft sided carrier for the entire flight’s duration, the size of which as recommended by the airline, must be within 21 x 15 x 9 inches.

Checked Baggage

Pets that do not fit into the requirements of the cabin travel are carried as checked baggage. Two pets of comparable size that are familiar to each other can travel in the same carrier as long as their weight does not exceed 31 lbs each. The size of the carrier in which the pet is required to travel should not measure more than 23 x 18 x 16 inches. It should be appropriately sized to accommodate the pet without any discomfort.

In-cargo

Animals that are large, do not meet the requirements of the cabin or checked baggage, or need to travel alone are transported through the airline’s sister company, Swiss World Cargo.

Emotional Support/Service Animal

Edelweiss Air allows assistance dogs such as guide dogs and emotional support dogs to travel in the cabin of the aircraft at no extra charge. However, proper documents proving the passenger’s dependency upon the dog must be provided to the airline at the time of booking.
