Most airlines accept pets weighing 20 lbs or less in the cabin and no more than 100 lbs in the cargo hold. Larger dogs that do not meet the requirement of the cabin will be transported in the cargo hold. Before booking your flights with a pet, it is always advised to check any seasonal restrictions the airline may have.

Cathay Pacific Pet Policy

Cathay Pacific treats pets as their own and allows for their travel in the baggage hold of the aircraft or in the cargo section. It is of prime importance to be aware of the airlines’ specific pet policies to understand the requirements and prepare for a safe and comfortable journey for your pet(s).

Pet Criteria

Domestic dogs and cats can travel with Cathay Pacific. Travel may be restricted for certain breeds due to health risks and other concerns regarding their safety.

In-cabin

Currently, no other pets are accepted to travel in the cabin except for trained Service dogs.

Checked Baggage

Most pets can travel as checked baggage when flying out of Hong Kong. An IATA compliant crate will be required to transport your pet in the baggage hold. Documents as stated by the IATA and the destination country will also be essential.

In-cargo

When flying into Hong Kong, your pet will be transported in the cargo section. Proper documentation will be necessary for the transportation. The documents include a valid health certificate provided by a licensed vet, required permits for animal travel, relevant vaccination records etc. The carrier must certainly be IATA compliant to be approved for shipping.

Emotional Support/Service Animal

Any guide/hearing/service dog accredited by Assistance Dogs International or International Guide Dog Federation can travel in the cabin as long as you can provide valid training documents. If the dog is large, s/he can sit at your feet without obstructing the aisle. The dog can sit on your lap if the s/he is a small breed. Regardless, you must always keep them properly harnessed/leashed and you will be held accountable for the hygiene and sanitation of the flight in case your dog needs to relieve himself/herself.
