Calm Air International Pet Policy

Calm Air International, a Canadian airline, allows pets to be transported in the cabin, as checked baggage and to be shipped as cargo. It is of prime importance to be aware of the airlines’ specific pet policies to understand the requirements and prepare for a safe and comfortable journey for your pet(s).

Pet Criteria

Pets need to be at least 8 weeks old for them to be able to travel in Calm Air flights. Pregnant animals are not allowed to fly with this airline. The number of pets allowed on a flight is limited. Hence, it is advisable that you make the necessary arrangements for your pet’s travel right after booking your flight tickets to ensure a spot for him/her on the flight.

In-cabin

Small pets such as dogs, cats, household birds, rabbits, hamster, guinea pigs, gerbils etc. are allowed to travel in the cabin of an aircraft. The combined weight of the pet and his/her carrier cannot exceed 20 lb. The dimensions of the pet carrier cannot be more than 19 x 13 x 10 inches. Pets need to remain inside their carrier at all times throughout the duration of the flight. The carrier needs to be placed underneath the seat in front of you all through the flight. 1 pet carrier per passenger is allowed to be transported in the cabin of an aircraft. An amount of about $78.75 would be charged as pet-travel fee.

Checked Baggage

On some flights, larger animals are accepted for transportation as checked baggage. 3 puppies or kittens under the age of 6 months that are from the same litter are allowed to be transported in the same pet carrier. 2 dogs or cats are allowed to be transported in the same pet carrier as long as they each weigh less than 31 lb. Each family is allowed to take along 2 pet carriers. The carrier needs to be hard-sided, leak-proof and secure. It should also have proper ventilation for the pet to be able to travel comfortably. The pet-travel fee for pets weighing less than 70 lb. is about $78.75. For pets weighing more than 70 lb., it is about $ 157.50.

In-cargo

Pets traveling without their owners or the ones who cross the weight limit mentioned above can be shipped as cargo. Up to 2 pets can be transported in the same pet carrier as long as they are used to being transported together and each of them weigh less than 31 lb.
