Avianca Costa Rica Pet Policy

Avianca Costa Rica welcomes pets to travel in the cabin with the passengers. It is of prime importance to be aware of the airlines’ specific pet policies to understand the requirements and prepare for a safe and comfortable journey for your pet(s). Only 3 pets are allowed per flight, so confirming the availability is the first step of many, as explained further.

Pet Criteria

Dogs, cats, assistance dogs and emotional support animals who are at least 8 weeks old can travel with Avianca Costa Rica.

In-cabin

Only 1 container per passenger is permitted in the cabin. The combined weight of the pet and the carrier should not be more than 13 lbs (6 kg). The maximum dimensions of the carrier as stated by the airline is 17" x 12" x 7" (43cm x 30cm x 18cm). The carrier should be big enough for the pet to comfortably, sit, stand and move around and must also be waterproof and well ventilated from all four sides. Also, the pet must be inside the carrier for the duration of the journey.

Emotional Support/Service Animal

Service dogs can travel in the cabin for free and without a carrier as long as the passenger has full control over the dog. An Emotional Support Animal can travel in the cabin if s/he weighs less than 88 lbs (40 kg) and the passenger can provide a mental health document from a licensed mental health professional confirming the need to travel with the animal.
