Alitalia Pet Policy

Alitalia takes into consideration the rules and regulations applicable for flying pet(s) across destinations. Therefore, a passenger must confirm if the travel destination welcomes pets before making bookings. It is of prime importance to be aware of the airlines’ specific pet policies to understand the requirements and prepare for a safe and comfortable journey for your pet(s).

Pet Criteria

Alitalia welcomes dogs, cats, ferrets and canary as pet passengers.

In-cabin

Animals that weigh no more than 18 lbs are allowed to travel in the cabin of the aircraft. They must always remain inside the carrier that must not measure more than 9 x 16 x 8 inches in dimensions. The carrier must be made up of a sturdy material which should be adequately ventilated and should be waterproof. Also, up to 5 animals of same breed can travel in the same carrier provided that they do not exceed the weight restrictions.

Checked Baggage

Animals are transported as checked baggage if their weight inclusive of the carrier is more than 22 lbs but less than 165 lbs. The size of the carrier must be sufficient to accommodate the pet comfortably. The body of the carrier must either be made up of fiberglass or hard plastic, should be well ventilated and secured with a lock.
