Most airlines accept pets weighing 20 lbs or less in the cabin and no more than 100 lbs in the cargo hold. Larger dogs that do not meet the requirement of the cabin will be transported in the cargo hold. Before booking your flights with a pet, it is always advised to check any seasonal restrictions the airline may have.

Air China Pet Policy

Air China welcomes pets to travel on their flights. However certain restrictions may apply. It is of prime importance to be aware of the airlines’ specific pet policies to understand the requirements and prepare for a safe and comfortable journey for your pet(s). Only 2 pets are permitted on each aircraft, so confirming the availability and animal restrictions is the first step of many, as explained further.

Pet Criteria

Small domesticated cats and dogs older than 8 weeks of age are accepted for travel under Air China’s pet policy. However, cats and dogs that may be aggressive and are vulnerable to respiratory or other health risks will not be granted permission.

In-cabin

Currently, only trained service animals are allowed to travel in the cabin.

Checked Baggage

Live animals are accepted to be transported as checked baggage. The temperature and pressure settings in this area is the same as the passenger cabin. The maximum weight limitation of the pet, the carrier, the food and water combined is 70 lbs(32 kg). The carrier should be IATA compliant and the pet must have valid quarantine certificates.

In-cargo

Animals weighing over 70 lbs (32 kg) will be transported through Air China cargo. The carrier must again be IATA compliant and the pet must have valid quarantine certificates.

Emotional Support/Service Animal

Service dogs who are trained to assist blind or deaf passengers can be permitted to travel in the cabin subject to the airline’s approval. Quarantine certificates and proper ID will be needed at the time of check in. Only 1 service dog is allowed per aircraft and an unaccompanied minor will not be permitted to travel with a service dog. The service dog should be leashed and must always be wearing a muzzle.
