Most airlines accept pets weighing 20 lbs or less in the cabin and no more than 100 lbs in the cargo hold. Larger dogs that do not meet the requirement of the cabin will be transported in the cargo hold. Before booking your flights with a pet, it is always advised to check any seasonal restrictions the airline may have.

JetBlue Pet Policy

JetBlue welcomes fur babies in the cabin of both domestic and international flights. Although pet travel is restricted to/from some destinations. It is of prime importance to be aware of the airlines’ specific pet policies to understand the requirements and prepare for a safe and comfortable journey for your pet(s). JetBlue accommodates up to 4 pets in each flight, so confirming the availability is the first step of many, as explained further.

Pet Criteria

JetBlue accepts only small cats and dogs as pets under their pet travel policy and the combined weight of the pet and the carrier must not exceed 20lbs (9kg).

In-cabin

JetBlue permits only 1 pet per passenger but are open to making exceptions in a few special cases. The pets are required to stay inside the carrier throughout the journey which must always be under the seat with the door locked. The carrier dimensions cannot be more than 17" x 12.5" x 8.5" (43 cm x 31 cm x 21 cm). Other carrier requirements include a leak proof bottom with ventilation on at least two sides and the pet must be able to stand up straight and move around comfortably.

In-cargo

Due to lack of oxygen and pressurized air on the airline, pets aren't allowed to be transported as checked in baggage or in hold.

Emotional Support/Service Animal

JetBlue accepts trained dogs, cats and miniature horses as Service/Emotional Support Animals. They may permit other animals on a case by case basis if they are assured that they pose no threat to other passengers. 1 support/service animal is permitted per passenger. Their behavior will be monitored and documents will be verified before allowing them to travel in the cabin with the passenger. Documents required include -

  • Declaration of the animal’s Service/Emotional Support/Psychiatric status
  • Vaccinations report based on the requirement of their destination, if traveling internationally.
  • Veterinary health form
  • Medical/health professional form
  • Customer confirmation of Animal Behavior
